Departure #1 & #2

One of our ways to ensure sanity-a calm departure. It’s better to leave a day later, when you feel better prepared. Additionally on Weds evening, we learned of a fresh snowfall in Southern Oregon, so that encouraged us to delay by another night.

It was VERY hard for me to accept that this van previously fit gear for 2 adults, now it fits gear and crafts for 2 adults and 2 children.

The girls and I went for a long walk on Thursday morning. We visited a few of our local fairy gardens (three of them) and left little trinkets for the fairies enjoyment. This payed huge dividends afterwards, as they played beautifully for the final hours of buttoning up the house….I was in awe.

For the two days prior to our departure (Weds and Thurs), for every item I checked off as truly packed, I added two more to find in the house. (This was worse than the week before.) I also managed to find moths enjoying my favorite scarves…not optimal, but some things just need attention!

Eventually we did it, at 5pm-where a gorgeous sunset bid us goodbye. 29 hours after our targeted departure time. 20 minutes later, we were at our destination- our mother in law’s driveway! Departure #1!

Setting up for night #1- making sure everything is in good functioning order…kind of like a journey to space!

I know- not what you were hoping for! But, this allowed us one more night close to home, but away from the house.

The next morning we made Departure #2! We headed out at 10am on Friday-making it to Medford, Oregon for night #2.

Our lunch spot in Cottage Grove.
Pizza lunch while the sun was still shining.
Girls first snow sighting of the season that first night of the trip, in a strip mall in Medford, OR.

Our first true day on the road was a success-good miles, no breakdowns, and thanks to lots of pre-teaching, the girls were mostly calm and ready to get going.

We drove for 41 minutes before crying started. I got up twice in this time to give snacks and chapsticks….how many miles is it to Baja???
