We woke up this morning and it was cold. I could see the snow on nearby peaks. This means I waited an extra 15 minutes to get out of bed, which is hard for me! During those 15 minutes I kept thinking about My first goal: Make Coffee!!!
Breakfast: Once I got up, after coffee, I quickly made my oatmeal. Todd woke up and had his cereal and then we proceeded to drink coffee and write blog posts for the next two hours.
Today is a “let’s get ready to go” day. This means we’re making big plans, but it is actually very hard for us to leave town, we’re hanging around the city of El Calafate. It’s a place that exists because of the tourism related to Perito Moreno Glacier. We aren’t frequenting the travel agencies to book boat tours, but rather, we are planning where to drive and we wrote a blog post! WOW!
Lunch: We had soup and salad. Arugula salad with avocadoes, oil, and lemon juice. Leftover soup made from the meat we first cooked on Day 2)! It is rare for us to whip out the propane stove for lunch, but since we were parked at a hostel (to take showers and use wifi) it was no problem to heat up soup. Todd was very surprised and sad that we weren’t having sandwiches for lunch. But I think the fresh arugula salad was way better than any mayo covered sandwich. I miss my fresh vegetables!
We have a border crossing coming up in the next two days. However, I was able to convince Todd that we needed to go get more vegetables! YES! Todd likes vegetables, but he thinks I buy too much food altogether. It’s just that I don’t want to run out and I like to have a nice selection!
Dinner: With some new veggies and eggs in the larder, Todd made fried rice (thank you Gwynne for the cold rice tip) and burgers with the beef we got at La Anonima on Day 1.
The fried rice had white rice, eggs, Swiss chard, onion, and Chilean Aji Pebre sauce. The burgers were meat and salt, on fresh white rolls with mayo. That’s all you need for good burgers.
Dessert: A long card game of Rumi paired with Los Antiguos cherries and a piece of chocolate with boxed red wine.
When does it get dark? 10? 11?
It’s light until at least 10, and kind of light until after 11. Not great conditions for star gazing.
I’m liking these frequent posts. You may want to make note of what the favorite or national dish is in each region. Kind of, what is the folk cuisine of the province? Maybe even try to cook it ? Have a good and easy border crossing. ❤️ Marlèn
That is one of my dream to travel using mobile car house with my family. That is a priceless experience for me and hope one day it will come true.
Yes it is a wonderful way to travel and live. Good luck, we hope you reach your dream. Remember that at some point you need to just go for it. It will never be the perfect time.
